Busy week. Or so it seems!
Sunday I decided to take th plunge and try a new "church". It is a Uniterian Universalist and the most intriguing thing was they have a pagan group. So I went. It was the most refreshing experience I have had "church" wise in a long time.
The "minister" or whatever you choose to call her is petite, with shorn hair and tattoos. They spoke from one of Dr Martin Luther Kings speeches. No hellfire and brimstone. Just Community, Children, Social Action, and Family.
I was warmly invited to the pagan group that meets once a month by one of the members. Plus, she has a sewing/knitting/crochet/spinning group. I am looking forward to discovering more about this group and "church".
One of the most delightful things about the service were the children. Dressed as fairies, Darth Vader, and Selkies (which I was DELIGHTED that she knew about). And after the service an "Amen and Blessed Be" to all congregation members.
Tonight I attended a wake. A newish friend from work, his mother passed away. He was her caregiver, a bachelor. Knowing his background from another friend, I especially wanted to be there for him, as I know there is not approval from everyone for his life choices. He gave me a smile and a welcome my first week of work. I am blessed to know him and have him as a friend.
I think this is marvellous for you and the fact that the kinds were dressed like that a very good sign! Unitarian is the most open-minded religion IMHO. I love that they have a pagan group, that is a beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteI've been to my local UU's yearly "Witches Ball," does yours have one of those? Amazing event, takes place around Samhain, open to the public.
ReplyDeleteI've been tempted to join the CUUPS (pagan group in the UU church) as well, you might just have inspired me to finally take the plunge! :-)
