Sunday
Today my MIL and I went to the church we have been attending the past several weeks. Today the service was dedicated to Operation Christmas Child. I got so teary eyed!
It's odd being a caregiver. I have always had a connection with my elders. I don't think I would have had the patience for this 20 years ago. She still forgets things. Get confused. But carries on. She has been concerned lately that her mother and some of her siblings passed on at 79, which is her age. I hope she lives much longer of course. 79 is almost over with and 2012 will be her 80th year.
Christmas will be interesting. My SIL is coming with her daughter. It will be awkward to say the least between hubby and sis. She told MIL today she was jealous that we were the caregivers. Regret I suppose as she did not come to see her mother the entire time my husband was there caring for his mom.
Here's hoping fences will mend.

Day to day
Thank you to everyone who has kept my mother in law in their thoughts. She has made a resounding recovery. I spoke with her again today and she sounds great. Back to her old self. She'll be in rehab for a week or so until she gets her strength back; then she'll be able to go back home.
I have been trying to eliminate a lot of gluten from my diet. My grocery has more and more items. I know I'll probably never go totally gluten free, just like I probably will never go totally vegan. But I feel moving in that direction will be better for me.
So tonight I tried this:
Cedar Lane Three Layer Enchilada Pie
It was great! I love cheesy stuff and I adore pizza and Mexican food. As I try new items in my experimentation, I'll keep you posted!

Mother in law
All, I would appreciate any prayers for my mother in law-Doris. She is in the hopital right now. She suffered a mini-stroke on this past week and is back in the hospital again.

It's been rough today. A friend and former co-worker passed away yesterday. I have know Bill for 15 years and adored him. He had been hospitalized with a viral infection that had paralyzed him. He had been moved out of ICU and was regaining his movement in his hands. He had a heart attacked and passed yesterday. We shared the same birthday. Exactly 10 years apart.
It's hard to imagine that he is gone. Hard to imagine that I'll no longer receive e-mails asking about the hot weather here in Texas. No more "H&K, Bill"
I know you are in good hands, Bill. I miss you much..
And thank you to my friends that sent prayers. Nothing goes un-noticed.

Upate
So I received an update about my friend. He has had his breathing tube removed, he was moved out of ICU into a regular room. He is talking, but needs a feeding tube for now to get his protein up. He is starting to get feeling back into his hands but not his legs yet.
Such a relief but it has brought some of us friends back together. Life seems to get into the way and we need to prevent that.
Thanks for the prayers. Especially Clare!!

Prayers
A dear friend of mine is in the hospital and is in critical condition. He is paralyzed from the waist down due to an infection in his spine. The infection resulted from an infection in his tooth/teeth.
Please say a prayer, keep him in your thoughts, healing energy, whatever you mode of spirituality is.
Thank you

Lame
That's me. I worked at the bookstore till close last night and then stayed up after I got home until 1:30 AM. So I got up, piddled around, ate breakfast, talked tom y folks and then fell asleep to a movie. No worries. I've see it a hundred times.
So no photos of the 2 Pyrex bowls I got at Goodwill. Nor the books, hat and awesome handbag from the antique mall. Yet anyway.
I did score two of my favorite movies at work:

Still aching
Thank you all for your wonderful words. I love you all.
Dean passed away. I received the call from my mom last night. I've know Dean for as long as I can remember.
When my parents divorced, I was 4 or 5. Dean was there a lot for my mom. I was worried they would get married (my wee brain, I think hoped for a reconciliation between my parents). I told him years later when I was an adult. He just laughed and said "Oh, honey, I'm gay." (or something similar.)
I was telling my mom that story last night and much to my delight, he actually did ask my mom to marry him. He said they could take care of each other.
Now, I wished they had.
Maybe he wouldn't have been stuck in the shitty hospital, getting poor health care. My mom had to make several phone calls to the same hospital, to even find someone who knew he was there and what room. It's hard to know that someone you cared so much for had such hardships.
I wish I had a picture, but I don't know if we ever had any of Dean. I hope to find one to share.

My heart aches
I spoke with Mom tonight. A family friend that I have know for 45+ years is apparently in hospice. I hope my mom can make it to California in time to see him. He was a fellow teacher and I learned a lot from him. He let me play in his classroom. Using his art supplies.
I love you Dean.

Jane Eyre
OK, so I have read 2 1/2 chapters of Jane. I want to smack Master John Reed.
I am enjoying what I have read so far. Other than Master Reed. We all need someone we love to hate, right?
I am excited about this challenge. I read several books at once. I really enjoy the classics, but sometimes they can be difficult. I usually keep something light and fun (for me) in the mix when I need a break. I adored Wuthering Heights and was excited beyond belief to see the moors in England.
Plus, it'll get me blogging again.

Finally!
After much frustration I took my computer to the "computer doctor" on January 26 and got her back last night. We had a nasty virus. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it removed.
Thanks to a co-worker, I was referred to an amazing place, reasonably priced ($85!!!, flat, no tax either), and we are up and running again. I've missed my virtual friends!

The Wizard of Oz (Silent - 1925)
Watched this version of the Wizard of Oz today. I have an odd fascination with the Wizard of Oz ever since I spent 3 months in Kansas. While there I visited a museum devoted to the story. Until recently I never knew there was an earlier version of the movie. Interesting to say the least. With some very politically INCORRECT moments.
