Still aching

Thank you all for your wonderful words. I love you all.

Dean passed away. I received the call from my mom last night. I've know Dean for as long as I can remember.

When my parents divorced, I was 4 or 5. Dean was there a lot for my mom. I was worried they would get married (my wee brain, I think hoped for a reconciliation between my parents). I told him years later when I was an adult. He just laughed and said "Oh, honey, I'm gay." (or something similar.)

I was telling my mom that story last night and much to my delight, he actually did ask my mom to marry him. He said they could take care of each other.

Now, I wished they had.

Maybe he wouldn't have been stuck in the shitty hospital, getting poor health care. My mom had to make several phone calls to the same hospital, to even find someone who knew he was there and what room. It's hard to know that someone you cared so much for had such hardships.

I wish I had a picture, but I don't know if we ever had any of Dean. I hope to find one to share.

My heart aches

I spoke with Mom tonight. A family friend that I have know for 45+ years is apparently in hospice. I hope my mom can make it to California in time to see him. He was a fellow teacher and I learned a lot from him. He let me play in his classroom. Using his art supplies.

I love you Dean.

Jane Eyre

OK, so I have read 2 1/2 chapters of Jane. I want to smack Master John Reed.

I am enjoying what I have read so far. Other than Master Reed. We all need someone we love to hate, right?

I am excited about this challenge. I read several books at once. I really enjoy the classics, but sometimes they can be difficult. I usually keep something light and fun (for me) in the mix when I need a break. I adored Wuthering Heights and was excited beyond belief to see the moors in England.

Plus, it'll get me blogging again.

Bronte Read Along

I am joining She is Too Fond of Books on a Bronte read along, starting with Jane Eyre. I started yesterday and have read the first chapter.

She is Too Fond of Books is a girl after my own heart!
