I am glad to say that my colonoscopy showed no abnormalities! In fact, the doctor told my husband it's been the easiest one she's done in awhile. Thank you all for the well wishes on this one!
Back to work this afternoon and then a full day tomorrow. No part time job for a week and a half. But I was asked to stay!

Happy Holidays!
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas, Blessed Yule and will have a wonderful New Year!
I have been mostly MIA due to my part time job at the bookstore. Hubby has been sick, I now have a headcold and I am off for my first colonoscopy tomorrow. Oh, yay. Today is liquid diet day. This does not make for a happy Kim.
But my parents are in town for a few more days and will be over tonight to play cards or something. In the meantime, I am keeping busy by trying to catch up with everyone and napping.

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's been awhile since I blogged. It's mostly been quick updates on Facebook. We are spending a peaceful Thanksgiving at home, just the two of us (3 counting the pooch). I am thankful for the down time.
However, I am most thankful for my family, daughter, husband and friends, both near and far, including all of you that I have yet to meet face to face, but feel an overwhelming connection.

Samhain
Our Samhain ritual was Friday night. We had an awesome turnout! Several new members of our secondary group (our primary group is closed to new members-just squeaked by-unless invited).
We had an outdoor ritual with 5 High Priestesses, one at each point of the star. A beautiful cool, crisp clear night.
Each of us went through one at a time, reading a paragraph to ourselves about honoring those who are on the other side. Ancestors, loved ones, etc.
At each point we were spoken to by the High Priestess, posing a question. We had the option of saying our answer out loud or to ourselves. Befeathered's familiars ran around our feet.
I brought the picture below. This is my paternal Grandmother and Grandfather. Though close to both of my grandmothers, I was one of 5 grandchildren for them, 1 of 13 for the other. I was able to spend a lot of quality time with Grandma Ethel. We grew very close into my adulthood.
So, I was here to honor them and her. My teacher of simple things. Gardening, canning, crochet and sewing. As I got the the third point I was tearing up. Astreil said "They watch over you. They are not really gone." As I got to Dolphin, I was crying. She hugged me tight, I spoke of my need and meditated. When I opened my eyes she said, "I have a message for you. This has never happened to me before and it has come through so clearly. May I give you the message?"
As, I nodded my head and said, "Please.." She said, "I'm supposed to tell you that you can't carry the weight of the world on your shoulders."
I know, but it is so hard not to......

Race for the Cure
Today was a great day. My husband and I walked a 5K for Austin's Race for the Cure. My Grandmother (now passed), Mother, Best Friend, along with 2 other friends, all have survived breast cancer.
When a congressman was speaking before the race on a bill that has yet to pass, my husband looked at me and said "Why would they NOT pass a bill on something like this? It's a no brainer."
Couldn't answer that one.

Pumpkin Cookies
I made these for my Pagan Circle a month ago and my husband requested them this weekend. The recipe is in the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook-1981 version. I use a cookie/melon scoop because the dough is very soft.

Observance of Wiccan New Year Ends in Religious Discrimination Suit

Last Halloween, Gina Uberti took vacation days to celebrate the Wiccan new year in Salem, Massachusetts, the town infamously known for the witch trials of 1692 that ended with the hanging of 14 women.
Less than a month after Uberti took part in the festivities of Samhain, one of the holiest days in the Wiccan calendar, she was fired from her job as a district sales manager for Bath & Body Works.
In a complaint filed in federal court in Connecticut last week, Uberti alleges she was unfairly terminated for practicing Wicca, known as the largest of neopagan religions.
Uberti alleges in the lawsuit that her boss said just before she was fired, “You will need a new career in your new year. … I will be damned if I have a devil worshiper on my team.”
Uberti says in the suit that her troubles at work began shortly after she returned from her trip to Salem. Her boss lamented that Uberti had chosen to go on vacation during a particularly important week at work, Uberti said. Uberti said her vacation had been approved by another manager a year in advance and that she had taken that particular time to celebrate a Wiccan holiday.
“That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard,” Uberti’s boss, Sandra Scibelli said, according to court documents.
Until she was fired November 20, 2008, Uberti had worked for the retailer for eight years, first as a manager in the company’s Milford, Connecticut, store and then as a sales manager from her home in nearby East Haven.
Uberti filed charges in February with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which granted her the right to sue in September.
Bath & Body Works is part of Limited Brands Inc, based in Columbus, Ohio.
“We are an equal opportunity employer and do not discriminate against race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, national origin, citizenship, age, disability, sexual orientation or marital status,” says Robin Hoffman, specialist, external communications for Limited Brands. “Additionally, we do not comment on pending litigation.”
Uberti’s lawsuit seeks compensatory damages for emotional distress and damage to her career as well as lost pay, vacation days and pension benefits, as well as other restitution.
Tal Marnin, an attorney with White & Case in New York, says U.S. law prohibits religious discrimination regardless of whether the religion is widely practiced or not.
“The employee has to show she is a sincere believer and that her attending the ceremony was part of her religious observance and practice,” Marnin said.
The company would have to show Uberti’s absence caused it an “undue hardship,” Marnin said.
The Wiccan new year, Samhain, takes place the same day as the Celtic new year. It is considered one of the four holy festivals, or Sabbats, according to the complaint. Uberti says in her complaint that for the previous six years she had received and taken time off to make the annual new year’s pilgrimage to Salem.
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act protects covered employees from discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin.

Somewhere I lost a follower. Sad. I know, I haven't been very good about blogging. I spend a lot of time reading other blogs!!!! And I am SO behind! 1000+ entries I need to catch up on.
Last Sunday at our Circle, we called upon help from Hecate. It was so beautiful. I made Fall mOOn Cakes for the ritual. (Link to recipe somewhere in an earlier post).
Funny thing was, after the ritual I felt....almost a healing. I had a horrible Friday at work and stressed about it most of the weekend. Sunday, after ritual it seemed to float away. And Monday I felt more confidant and stronger to deal with the stress from that Friday. Plus, it's carried over.

The Augusta, Georgia Pagan community comes together again to support Operation Circle Care, Circle Sanctuary's project that sends care packages to Pagan troops serving in war zones.
A book drive is scheduled in conjunction with their Pagan Pride Day, Saturday afternoon, October 3, Noon - 5 pm at Lake Olmstead Park in downtown Augusta. Pagan books will be collected at the main information booth for the event and donated to Operation Circle Care to be included in this years Yule care packages.

My cousin Bruce's son, my second cousin, Eric Fifer died in Iraq four years ago. Today was the four year anniversary of the day Bruce got that knock on his door that every parent fears.

This ritual, facilitated by Dave Sassman, of the Circle Sanctuary Military Ministries Circle ,
will honor Pagans serving and who have served in all branches of the Military as well as all Pagans who are First Responders.
It is open to men, women, and youth of many Pagan paths.
It is sponsored by Operation Circle Care, the Pagan Troops Support service operated by Circle Sanctuary as part of its Military Ministries.
Those attending are welcome, but not required, to bring mementos of their family member's service or something representing themselves to be blessed on the altar.
The ceremony will begin at 1 pm and it should last about an hour or so.
Those needing to sit rather than stand should bring chairs to use. Arrivals for the ceremony begin at Noon.
So, come and help us celebrate and remember the members of the Military, Active and Veterans, here at home or deployed.
There is no fee to attend but donations to Operation Circle Care will be accepted and appreciated.
If possible (not required), please bring Pagan medallions, Goddess images, CDs of Pagan music, other items to be sent by

Support for Pagan Soldiers!
Help OPERATION CIRCLE CARE: Support for Pagan Troops
For the third year in a row Circle Sanctuary will be sending pentacles, CDs,
incense, copies of CIRCLE Magazine and other items in Yuletide gift packages
as spiritual support to Wiccan/Pagan troops serving in combat areas.
What has always made the Operation Circle Care (OCC) project so special is
its personal touch. Operation Circle Care contents are always made up of
personal gifts donated by the Pagan and Wiccan community.

(1) SEND ITEMS: Photos of care packages sent in 2007 and 2008 along with a
list of suggested items to donate can be found at:

What a surprise I received in the mail today! The lovely Watercolor Kit I won from Junie Moon!!! And little extra Halloween Cross Stitch Pillow. It has an adorable Pumpkin. And as many of you know, I adore all things Pumpkin. After all, I was born in a Pumpkin Patch! Thank you, Junie!

Finally!!!!
I can post this!! Our daughter flew in yesterday as a surprise for her dad. Today is his birthday. I picked her up yesterday!!

What a day
Today I took off to get plates for my car. Smooth sailing (other than the price) in and out in 20 minutes. Howver, I get home to my husband saying he is feeling "weird" and doesn't feel like he can get a deep breath. No pain, no numbness.
So, he calls the VA to make an appointment and the woman tells him to call 911. We hop in the car and head out to the VA. All the while Hubby saying if he feels different he'll let me know, etc, etc.
We get there and he gets in pretty quick intitially. Lab work. Pee test. Blood pressure is a bit elevated. By the time the tech is finished with all the paperwork it has come down.
Then we wait.............................
2 hours later we get in to see the doctor. Thank heavens nothing is wrong, like a heart attack. Pretty darn healthy. However, seems to be a case of anxiety.
So he goes back tomorrow for a chest x-ray and an EKG to be safe, a thorough checkup and hopefully something to quit smoking! *relief*

Moon through chants and meditation.
Following the meditation, participants will walk to the Stone Circle for a
ceremony of healing and wellness.
Please bring a stone, pebble, crystal, or rock to energize in the Moonlight
in the Prairie during our meditation and to leave in the Stone Circle. Also
bring a blanket or easily carried camp chair for meditation seating in the
prairie.
Free. Open to women & men.

Sustainability/Ethical Eating and Paganism/Witches
So, a heated discussion ensued on our Circle Yahoo Groups page. The Circle decided to have topics of discussion during our potluck. We'd have a different topic each month and a lead to keep the discussion track.
We have our Ritual first, then our potluck/gathering time.
Someone generously offered to speak to our group about ethical eating and sustainability. Boy, did that ever open a can of worms!
Now, I know how I feel. I feel that sustainability/ethical eating has a lot to do with being Pagan. But I now pose the subject to you all, my Pagan/Witchy friends.
Do you feel this is an appropriate topic of discussion and has relevance to Pagan religion?

My life has been greatly affected by breast cancer. I had my first benign tumor removed in college. My maternal grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1983 or 84 (?), had a mastectomy, radiation and lived on for quite some time, until 1992, dying of something totally unrelated.
My mother was diagnosed in the 90's and is a survivor of almost 18 years. 2 close friends were diagnosed in 2006 & 2007.
My best friend from high school was diagnosed and has just past her first year of survival. She is my age. 47.
I had a male boss who had to undergo a mammogram due to a suspicious lump.
I myself have undergone mammograms since I was in my early 30's. I had the genentic test completed last year and I am clean. But this does not mean I will not become 1 in 8 women diagnosed with breast cancer.
Even a dollar makes a difference. Even if you cannot afford to donate, and I understand in this economy we have to be chosey, volunteer. For me. For you. For your daughters. For your friends. For your neighbors.
For those you know and those you don't. For those who have lived a lifetime and for those not yet borrn.

Summer Solstice
My friend Miss*R over at Tales of Inglewood has gathered us together to Heal our Mother Earth. She is in desperate need of healing. The Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers have spoken of this.
I decided to partake, but when Sunday arrived I wasn't sure what to do. I envisioned Her wrapped in a big white healing light. I carried that vision with me throughout the day.
When evening came, I looked at my alter and saw the charged moon water I had made several months ago at circle. I took my moon water and a packet of Texas wildflower seeds outside. I gave the seeds back to Gaia and nourished her (and them) with moon water.

I decided to partake, but when Sunday arrived I wasn't sure what to do. I envisioned Her wrapped in a big white healing light. I carried that vision with me throughout the day.

My husband, my hero
My husband served in the United States Army. He enlisted when he was 17. Joined when he was 18. He's a trained mechanic and has been one, until recently for over 25 years.
Today he is working his "job". He does it to keep himself busy. He probably makes less than 1 cent a week. But he still does it just about every day. And I worry, even though he has his phone with him and walks against traffic.
He picks up cans and when he has enough he turns them in and get .33 cents a pound. When he finally felt he had enough he turned than in and got $10.
It's sad the amount of trash along the roads here in Texas. I have never seen anything like it. And neither has he.
When he contacted the County to see about contracting himself out for this, he was told several different things, when he finally (6 phone numbers later) got to the correct person.
"We send out inmates out regularly to do this" (We've seen this maybe twice and of course it's along the highways near Austin.)
When my husband (nicely) indicated this, he was told he was wrong. Makes me wonder why the SAME MATTRESS has been on the SAME STREET outside of Pflugerville's City Limits, but inside Travis County, for a few weeks now.
I told my husband he needed to take a picture of the knocked down "Littering results in a $4000 fine" sign with trash scattered around it. Ironic.
He was told that if he wanted to file a "complaint" he could do so. He was also told he did not need to get rude/snotty whatever about it. My husband wasn't. He was just looking for information and a chance to get a job.
Occasionally, someone will give him money. A man gave him $26 bucks the other day and thanked hm for trying to keep the road clean.
He was told by the County that he could set up an "Adopt a Highway" section in our area.
It's a shame. We live somewhat in the country. Not too many houses. Some farm animals. I'm sure they apppreciate rusting, rotting cans and broken glass in their environment.
I'm certain they wouldn't know what to do with a mattress.

Baking
Great recipe in the current issue of Gourmet Magazine (it was a gift subscription). Homemade hamburger buns and hot dog buns. I almost burnt out the motor in my food processor-a word of caution, it's a stickier dough. We'll see how they turn out!

Memorial Day Weekend
Bittersweet. My cousin's son died in 2005 at the age of 22 in the Iraq War. Eric was my cousin Bruce's only biological son. Way too often, on the radio and various TV programs, the ages of those who gave their lives for our continuing freedom in this brutal war, are at 19, 20, 21, 22. Young men and woman who have not had a chance at life. My heart goes out to you. Thank you.
Why do I say bittersweet? It is also the weekend of the Indianapolis 500. As a born and bred Hoosier, it is an exciting weekend. A Memorial Day institution in the heart of the Midwest. I still get goosebumps when I hear Jim Nabors sing "Back Home Again in Indiana". He is 78.
For those of you interested in the history of the Indy 500 check out Wikipedia. Today is the 93rd running. And there are already 2 drivers out.

Happy Easter, Blessed Passover, Blessed Oestara (late)
I got my hubby an Easter basket with a basketball in it. Two fold...we can go together and shoot hoops. I received an adorable card (as usual) and a Bamboo plant trained into a heart shape.
My parents hit the road early this am so we celebrated Easter yesterday. Haet being so far away from everyone......

Tired

UFO's
OK, some of you have crazy kids have requested photos of my UFO's. Here is the one I am currently working on. I am almost done, then I will get it framed. This is a needle point project. I prefer needlepoint, crewel and embroidery over cross stitch.
